Easton Teel recorded a career-high nine strikeouts as the Oral Roberts baseball team shut out St. Thomas, 4-0, in the series opener Friday evening.
Teel started on the mound for Oral Roberts, going 6.2 shutout innings while allowing four hits, walking none, and striking out nine.
The game was slow-moving early, with both teams recording just three hits over the first three innings. ORU broke through in the seventh, scoring all four of its runs in the frame.
The four-run inning began with
Cooper Kelly drawing a walk, followed by a
Tyler Brodrick hit-by-pitch and a
Kole Dudding walk to load the bases.
Keaton Campbell opened the scoring with a two-RBI single to left, plating Kelly and Brodrick.
Hudson Ellis followed with a single to left to reload the bases before all runners advanced and Dudding scored on a passed ball.
Makani Tanaka then drew a walk to reload the bases, and
Cooper Combs drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly to center.
Weston Rouse (2-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen, tossing 2.1 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out four.
Brayden Olsen (0-3) was charged with the loss after allowing one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
