ENID, Oklahoma – Playing in front of nearly 3,000 fans at historic David Allen Memorial Ballpark, the Oral Roberts baseball team fell to Air Force, 4-3, on Wednesday evening.
Air Force struck first with two runs in the opening inning, scoring on a double and a bunt single.
The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third.
Ethan Fender singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Hudson Ellis then drew a walk before Tanaka reached on a fielder's choice, advancing both runners while Ellis was retired at second. Fender later scored on an error by the pitcher.
The Falcons extended their lead to three in the fourth, first scoring on an RBI single and then again on an RBI double.
ORU chipped away at the lead with runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth,
Tyler Brodrick reached on an error, scoring Tanaka, who had singled, moved to second on a groundout, and advanced to third on a
Martell Davis single.
Tanaka added another run in the seventh, launching a solo home run to right-center to cut the deficit to one.
Brenden Asher (0-1) got the start and was charged with the loss. The right-hander threw 3.0 innings, allowing two runs while walking none and striking out three.
Falcon reliever Aiden Poe (3-0) earned the win after tossing 4.0 innings, allowing two runs while striking out two.
