TULSA, Oklahoma – The Oral Roberts baseball team defeated South Dakota State 10-2 on Sunday afternoon, sweeping the series over the Jackrabbits for the second time this season.
Four Golden Eagles recorded an extra-base hit, with doubles by
Keaton Campbell,
Will Edmunson,
Hudson Ellis, and
Cooper Kelly.
The Golden Eagles struck first as
Cooper Kelly doubled before scoring on an RBI groundout in the second inning.
ORU added six runs in the third, beginning with Ellis doubling. He advanced to third on an Edmunson single and scored on a
Makani Tanaka groundout.
Wailele Kane-Yates followed with an RBI single to drive in Edmunson.
Cooper Combs then delivered a two-RBI single to score
Martell Davis, who had drawn a walk, and Kane-Yates.
Ethan Fender and Ellis capped the inning with an RBI single each.
The Golden Eagles added their eighth run as Fender scored when Ellis reached on a fielding error.
SDSU scored its only two runs of the afternoon in the fourth and fifth innings, first on a sacrifice fly and then on an RBI triple.
ORU reached double digits in the seventh with an RBI double by Edmunson to score Ellis, followed by a sacrifice fly from Kane-Yates to bring in Edmunson.
Reliever
Jack Hill (4-0) earned the win after entering in the fifth. Hill threw 2.2 shutout innings, allowing no hits or walks while striking out three.
SDSU starter Kaden Rylance (2-3) was charged with the loss after allowing six runs on five hits over 2.1 innings.
