TULSA, Oklahoma – The Oral Roberts baseball team came up short against #21 Oklahoma State, 12-7, on Tuesday evening.
Dylan Christensen (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on two hits. Connor Johnson started and threw 5.0 innings for the Golden Eagles, striking out six batters.
OSU was first on the board, as leadoff hitter Alex Conover hit solo home runs in the first and second innings.
Oral Roberts responded in the third, as
Hudson Ellis was hit by a pitch and
Will Edmunson singled before both advanced on a sacrifice bunt by
Makani Tanaka. Ellis scored on an RBI groundout by
Wailele Kane-Yates.
The Golden Eagles took a 4-2 advantage in the fourth, as
Keaton Campbell singled up the middle to score
Cooper Kelly, who had singled and advanced to second on a groundout. Ellis was hit by a pitch, moving Campbell into scoring position, before both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Both runners later scored on an Edmunson single to right field.
OSU scored on a sacrifice fly in the fifth, but the Golden Eagles responded with a two-run home run by
Martell Davis, scoring himself and
Cooper Combs, who had reached on a single.
The Cowboys put up six runs in the seventh inning to take a 9-6 advantage, scoring on a passed ball and two home runs. They added an RBI double in the seventh and another in the eighth to make it 12-6.
ORU capped the evening with an RBI sacrifice fly by Kane-Yates in the eighth.
OSU reliever Jake Kennedy (3-0) earned the win after throwing 4.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
