GREELEY, Colorado – Three Golden Eagles combined for four home runs as the Oral Roberts baseball team fell 7-6 in the series opener at Northern Colorado Thursday afternoon.
Makani Tanaka opened the day with a solo shot to right, his 12th home run of the season.
UNC responded by tying the game, 1-1, with a solo homer of their own in the second inning.
The game remained scoreless through the fourth, but a no-doubter over left from
Wailele Kane-Yates scored himself and Tanaka, who had reached on a triple.
The Bears put up two runs each in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, first scoring on an RBI single and sacrifice fly in the sixth to tie the game, 3-3. They added a two-run homer in the seventh and another in the eighth.
Ethan Fender added ORU's third home run of the afternoon, a solo shot to left in the eighth.
Kane-Yates capped the day with a two-run shot in the ninth, scoring himself and
Will Edmunson, who had singled.
Reliever
Jack Hill (6-1) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits while striking out two batters in 3.0 innings on the mound.
Mitch Haythorn earned the win for UNC, throwing the final 4.0 innings while allowing three runs on three hits and striking out four batters.
