GREELEY, Colorado – After taking an early 4-2 lead through two innings, the Oral Roberts baseball team used a nine-run eighth inning to defeat Northern Colorado, 14-2, in eight innings Friday afternoon.
Oral Roberts opened the scoring with four runs in the second inning.
Cooper Kelly and
Ethan Fender drew walks before a
Tyler Brodrick bunt single loaded the bases.
Will Edmunson followed with a two-RBI single, and
Wailele Kane-Yates added another two-run single to make it 4-0.
Northern Colorado answered with a two-run single in the bottom of the inning, but those would be the Bears' only runs of the afternoon.
The game remained scoreless through the next five innings before Edmunson added another run for the Golden Eagles with an RBI single that scored
Hudson Ellis, who had singled and advanced on a balk.
ORU's nine-run eighth inning began when Edmunson reached on a fielder's choice before
Makani Tanaka launched a two-run home run.
Cooper Combs reached on a fielder's choice, and
Martell Davis followed with a single before Kelly was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brodrick then drew an RBI walk to score Davis. Ellis followed with a bases-clearing double to left field to give ORU a 10-run advantage.
Pinch hitter
Kole Dudding solidified the run-rule victory with a no-doubt, two-run shot over the left-field wall.
Golden Eagles starter
