MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Oral Roberts baseball team stayed alive in the Summit League Championship Tournament with a 9-0 shutout over Omaha on Thursday afternoon.
Cooper Combs opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles in the third inning, hitting a single into left field to score
Makani Tanaka, who had singled and stolen second.
The afternoon remained scoreless through the top of the sixth before Oral Roberts used an eight-run surge to secure the victory.
Cooper Kelly led off the inning with a single and later moved to second on a single by
Matthew Mainord before
Hudson Ellis was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Will Edmunson made it 2-0 with an RBI hit-by-pitch.
With the bases still loaded, Tanaka lined a double down the left field line, driving in Ellis and Mainord.
Wailele Kane-Yates followed by clearing the bases with a single through the left side.
Kane-Yates moved into scoring position on a
Martell Davis single before Kelly was walked to load the bases once again.
Ethan Fender then drew a bases-loaded walk to score Kane-Yates. Mainord drove in the final two runs of the afternoon with a single through the left side to score Davis and Kelly.
ORU starter
Brenden Asher (3-4) earned the win after throwing 5.2 shutout innings and striking out three batters.
Kash Ferris entered in relief in the sixth, throwing 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings, while
Keaton Ruthardt closed out the final 2.0 innings, allowing no runs or hits and striking out three.
Tanner Foertsch (2-2) was charged with the loss for Omaha after allowing three runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work.
