TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts kept the pressure throughout Friday's four-set battle with Abilene Christian.
ORU opened the match with a strong performance in the first set, Cortnee Smith led the Golden Eagles with six kills while hitting .400 and adding three digs, earning a 25-20 victory. The Golden Eagles continued to battle throughout the second set, recording six team blocks and 20 digs, falling short by just three points. The third set featured a back-and-forth battle, with 14 tie scores and nine lead changes, remained within striking distance throughout the set but ultimately fell, 25-20. ORU again kept the fourth set competitive with Elyse Dube recording three kills while hitting .286, while Ana Appel contributed 10 assists and two digs, but the Golden Eagles ultimately fell to finish the first game of the two-game series, 3-1.
