Tulsa, Okla.
-- The Oral Roberts University women's soccer team jumped out to
an early first half lead and maintained their defensive intensity
after halftime en route to a 5-0 shutout of Mid-Continent
Conference opponent IUPUI at the ORU Soccer Complex Friday night.
Freshman Jessica Kellogg (Tulsa, Okla.) led a balanced Golden Eagle
attack with two goals and an assist to tally a five point
performance.
Freshman goalkeeper Kellie Fenton (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
recorded the second shutout of her career for ORU (4-5-1, 2-0), as
the Golden Eagle defense dominated their half of the field, holding
IUPUI (2-9-1, 0-3) to four shots on the evening.
Senior forward Tessa Long (Tulsa, Okla.) contributed two assists on
the night, giving herself sole possession of second place on the
Golden Eagle's list for points in a career. She came into the night
tied for second with Kari Shoemaker at 56 points, but her assist on
Kellogg's second score of the night pushed her ahead. Long now only
trails teammate Jodi Kirkhuff (65 points) on ORU's all-time points
list.
Kellogg started off the scroing for ORU (4-5-1, 2-0) at the game's
7:06 mark, dribbling through a crowd of defenders before beating
the keeper with an unassisted goal. Another Kellogg goal put the
Golden Eagles up 2-0 only 20 minutes into the night's match. That
lead would be extended to 3-0 before halftime when Jodi Kirkhuff
(Tulsa, Okla.) found find her own seam in the Jagaur's defense to
add a goal of her own.
ORU would begin the second half just as they ended the first, as a
Martha Owens' (Claremore, Okla.) corner kick would be redirected
off the head of Kirkhuff to make it a 4-0 game. Erin Hartog (Tulsa,
Okla.) finished off the night's scoring in the 55th minute, taking
a feed from Kellogg at the top of the box and arching back into the
top right hand corner of the net.
The Golden Eagles recorded a season-high 29 shots, with 16 of those
coming on goal.
ORU will put their undefeated conference record on the line this
Sunday as they play host to defending Mid-Con champion Oakland at
the ORU Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
