Pine Bluff, Ark. --Kristin Atkinson scored 20
points -- all in the first half -- as Oral Roberts University
rolled to a 80-49 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Saturday at the
Johnson HPER Complex.
ORU extends its winning streak to four games and improves to 7-2,
its best start in 20 years. UAPB falls to 1-7 with the loss.
Atkinson helped stake ORU to a 46-22 halftime lead by hitting
7-of-9 shots from the field, including a career-high tying six
3-pointers, before intermission. She hit four three's in the game's
first seven minutes, giving ORU a 18-5 lead with 12:51 to play in
the half. ORU was never challenged after that.
Atkinson was one of four Golden Eagles to score in double figures.
Cori Williston scored 13, Leah Cannon had 11 points, five assists
and four steals, and Stephanie Clark had 10 points and six
rebounds.
ORU shot a season-high 50.8 percent from the field, including 58.6
percent in the first half. The Golden Eagle defense limited the
Golden Lions to 42.6 percent shooting and forced 29 turnovers. ORU
picked up 20 steals, with April Garcia getting six.
Nikki Mooney led Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 14 points.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they host St. Gregory's,
7:05 p.m., Monday.
