Bowling Green, Kent.
-- A pair of first-half goals by Western Kentucky, along with a
rain soaked field, proved to be too much for the Oral Roberts
University women's soccer team to overcome Friday night, as they
dropped a tough non-conference match to Western Kentucky, 2-1.
Lauren Wilson started the scoring for the Hilltoppers (3-3), as she
took a pass from teammate Crystal Chapon and found the back of the
net at the game's 29:17 mark. Allsion Nellis added another goal in
the 43rd minute to extend Western Kentucky's lead to 2-0 at the
break.
Looking to claw their way back into the match, the Golden Eagles
(2-3) got a goal from Jodi Kirkhuff (Tulsa, Okla.) as she scored
off of a feed from Martha Owens (Claremore, Okla.) to close the gap
to 2-1.
The Hilltopper defense, led by goalkeeper Melissa Bailey, took over
in the game's final 10 minutes and shut the door on ORU. For the
game, ORU out-shot Western Kentucky 13-8.
The Golden Eagles will close out their weekend road trip with a
2:00 p.m. Sunday matinee at Southeast Missouri State.
