Tulsa, Okla. --Kristin Atkinson and Stephanie
Clark each scored 15 points, and Oral Roberts' defense limited
IUPUI to 31.8 percent shooting as the Golden Eagles picked up a
63-37 Mid-Continent Conference win, Monday at the Mabee Center.
ORU (13-3, 3-1) picks up its 10th win in the last 11 games, and the
victory also helps the Golden Eagles match their win total from
last season. IUPUI falls to 7-9 and 2-1.
ORU's matchup zone smothered the Jaguars throughout the game as
IUPUI was just 14-of-44 from the field, including 0-for-7 on
3-pointers. The Jaguars were 7-of-26 from the field in the second
half, and committed 23 turnovers for the game. Tiffany Kyser, who
entered the contest averaging 25.5 points in conference play, was
limited to nine points on 3-of-9 shooting.
The Golden Eagles got off to a sluggish start, scoring 10 points
over the game's first 10 minutes, but a late burst helped ORU take
control prior to halftime. Atkinson and Kendall Cunningham hit
consecutive treys to spark an 18-7 run. ORU took a 30-16 lead on
Clark's layup with 54 seconds to play in the half and Cori
Williston hit a spinning jumper in the lane as time expired for a
34-18 ORU halftime lead.
IUPUI never threatened in the second half, as ORU kept a
comfortable lead. A Claudia Louis layup gave ORU a 50-26 lead with
7:33 to play, and consecutive 3-pointers by Atkinson helped ORU to
its biggest lead of the night at 63-35 with 43 seconds to play.
Atkinson finished the game 5-of-13 from the field -- all on
3-pointers. Clark was 6-of-8 from the field and made all three of
her free throws. April Garcia scored 10 points and grabbed a
team-high nine rebounds.
Kyser and Natalie Hendricks led the Jaguars with nine points.
