Williston (Tulsa, OK) scored a game-high 26 points as Oral
Roberts University cruised to an 89-63 win over Arkansas-Pine
Bluff, Tuesday at the Mabee Center.
Williston was 9-of-14 from the field,
including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, and 2-of-4 from the line. She
entered the game needing 27 points to become the 11th player in
school history to reach 1,000 for her career, but fell one point
short.
The Golden Eagles (4-4) struggled
with UAPB (1-5) in the early going, finally taking the lead for
good when Katie Langford's (Arthurton, Australia)
jumper gave ORU a 10-9 edge at 13:31. ORU stretched to 31-21 on a
Maureen Obudho (Mombassa, Kenya) layup with 3:36
left in the half. The Golden Eagles led 43-27 at halftime.
ORU held a comfortable lead for much
of the second half but didn't pull away until late. A pair of free
throws by UAPB's TeAundra Harden cut ORU's lead to 69-57 with 4:46
to play, but the Golden Eagles closed with a 20-4 run for the final
margin.
Neither team shot particularly well
with ORU shooting 43.5 percent (30-69) from the field and UAPB 41.1
percent (23-56). ORU did connect for 10 3-pointers (on 19 attempts)
and UAPB was 15-18 from the line.
Sarah Davidson (New
South Wales, Australia) scored 11 points off the bench for ORU
while Leah Cannon (Adelaide, Australia), who
entered the game second in the nation in assists (10.3/gm) added 10
points and nine assists.
Maleka Sweat led the Golden Lions
with 17 points.
The Golden Eagles next take on San
Diego State, 6:30 p.m., Saturday in San Diego, CA.
