Bluffs, IA) and Alycia
Seay (Big Cabin, OK) combined for 36 points and Oral
Roberts University made eight free throws in the final 2:16 as the
Golden Eagles downed Chicago State 63-54 in a Mid-Continent
Conference game, Saturday at the Dickenson Center.
ORU (9-7, 3-2)
led 26-25 at halftime and extended the lead to 35-27 on a layup by
Katie
Langford (
Arthurton, Australia) with 16:26 to play. But Chicago State used an
11-2 run to grab a 38-37 lead on Ayesha Neasley's jumper with 11:11
remaining.
The game
see-sawed back-and-forth until Seay and Turek hit consecutive
jumpers for a 49-46 ORU lead with 6:55 left. The Golden Eagles then
put the game away at the line in the final three minutes. ORU was
14-of-18 from the line in the second half, and 21-of-27 for the
game.
ORU turned in a
strong second half effort. After shooting 36 percent from the field
and committing nine turnovers in the first half, the Golden Eagles
shot a respectable 42.4 percent from the field and turned it over
just five times.
Turek was
8-of-13 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line, adding seven
rebounds to her game-high point total. Seay was 5-of-8 from the
field and made all seven of her free throw attempts. Maureen Obudho (Mombassa,
Kenya) added 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Kafayat Davies
led the Cougars with 17 points.
The Golden
Eagles return to action when they Centenary, 7:05 p.m., Monday.
