Bluffs, Iowa) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with
13 points and 10 rebounds but it wasn't enough as Valparaiso downed
Oral Roberts University 65-47 in a Mid-Continent Conference game,
Monday at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
For the second straight
game, turnovers doomed the Golden Eagles (11-12, 5-7). ORU turned
it over 23 times, resulting in 29 points for the Crusaders (15-10,
10-4).
Mid-way through the
first half, the game was a nearly-even contest. Consecutive
three-pointers by Sarah Davidson (
New South Wales, Australia) helped trim Valpo's lead to 20-17 with
7:20 remaining in the half, but Valpo finished the half with a 12-3
flourish for a 32-20 halftime lead.
ORU rallied early in
the second half, twice getting as close as nine points, the last
coming when Maureen
Obudho's (Mombassa, Kenya) layup made it 39-30 with 15:01
to play. But the Golden Eagles would get no closer., despite
holding Valpo to 33.3 percent shooting in the second half.
In the first half the
Crusaders limited ORU to 29.6 percent shooting, forced the Golden
Eagles into 12 turnovers and held ORU to one field goal over the
final 7:19.
Claudia Louis (Baton Rouge,
La.) narrowly missed a double-double for ORU, scoring nine points
and grabbing nine rebounds.
ORU begins its final
homestand of the season when the Golden Eagles host Oakland, 2:05
p.m., Saturday at the mabee Center.
