TULSA€"Five different players scored in double figures
and Caleb Green (Tulsa, Okla.) became the all-time
leading rebounder in Mid-Continent Conference history as Oral
Roberts University cruised to a 91-41 win over Panhandle State,
Saturday at Mabee Center.
Green,
a 6-8 senior forward, grabbed his 911th career rebound
just over six minutes into the game and passed
Valparaiso€™s Chris Ensminger for the top spot
in conference history. Green finished with six rebounds and scored
17 points in 24 minutes.
Though
the Golden Eagles (3-1) scored the 9th-most lopsided win
in school history, the Aggies (1-3) led by as many as three points
twice in the first half, the last coming when LaChawn
Anderson€™s jumper made it 13-10 with 9:39 to
go.
But the
Golden Eagles closed out the half with a 26-9 run and took a 36-22
lead into the locker room at halftime.
The
Golden Eagles€™ strong finish to the first half
carried over into the final 20 minutes. A 3-pointer by Yemi
Ogunoye (Cedar Hill, Texas) and a steal and three-point
play by Ken Tutt (Garland, Texas) gave ORU a 47-25
lead with 17:23 remaining.
A
three-point play by Green gave ORU a 30-point advantage at 59-28
with 13:50 to go. Shawn King€™s
(Bequia, St. Vincent) layup with 11:37 left pushed the lead over 40
points at 70-29.
The
Golden Eagles shot 46.4 percent for the game, including 54.1
percent in the second half. ORU struggled from 3-point range for
the second straight game, making just 6-of-28 shots, but did
convert on 5-of-14 long-range attempts in the second half.
ORU
limited the Aggies to 28 percent shooting for the game, including
18.8 percent from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles out-rebounded
PSU 47-31, and went 21-of-26 from the free throw line.
Marchello Vealy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) led all
scorers with 19 points, adding eight rebounds and three steals.
Tutt scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds, while King had 14
points, nine boards and five blocks. Kelvin Sango
(Tulsa, Okla.) chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds and five
assists.
Anderson led the Aggies with 14 points.
