TULSA, Okla. �€" Jorge Davila
(Dallas, Texas) scored the game-winner in the 85th
minute to give Oral Roberts University (2-4-2, 1-1-0) its first
conference victory, defeated IUPUI, 2-1, on Saturday night at the
ORU Soccer Complex.
Davila received a pass from Carlos Pinto
(Asuncion, Paraguay) and streaked through
IUPUI�€™s defenders and slid it past the Jaguars
keeper, Drew Deffner.
The first half was scoreless as the play was slowed due to 25
fouls. IUPUI out shot the Golden Eagles 8-3 while
ORU�€™s keeper Carlos Veron
(Asuncion, Paraguay) recorded two saves.
The Golden Eagles came out aggressive in the second half and it
paid off as freshman Juan Chang (Guatemala City,
Guatemala) scored his fifth goal of the year at the 46:41 mark.
Jesse Roque (El Paso, Texas) was credited with the
assist.
IUPUI did not back down as they knotted the score at 1-1 on a
goal from Dan Heidari. Heidari headed the loose ball past
ORU�€™s Veron. The Jaguars�€™
Justin Darvish was credited with the helper.
ORU�€™s fast paced play in the second half led
to a 13-10 shot advantage, forcing IUPUI�€™s
keeper Deffner came up with six saves.
The second half had seven yellow cards and two red cards as play
got ugly. ORU received two of them, with Gary
Duran (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) receiving the red card due to
two yellow cards. Duran got his first yellow in the first half as
ORU received two penalties in the first frame.
With the loss, IUPUI dropped to 4-5-0, 0-1-0 on the year.
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Monday when they face
Newman. The game is slated at 7 p.m. at the ORU Soccer Complex.
