�€" Texas Christian University used three quick goals
in the first 22 minutes of play to defeat Oral Roberts University,
6-2, in the TU Women's Soccer/Grover Classic held at the Hurricane
Soccer and Track Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
TCU's Lauren Pope
recorded a hat trick, scoring two goals in the opening period and
adding her last tally at the 87:40 mark. Lizzy Karoly netted two
goals with one being the game winner for the Horned Frogs.
With TCU holding a
3-0 lead ORU's seniors Gentry Detter (Claremore,
Okla.) and Emily Gagnon (Broken Arrow, Okla.)
paired up to get the Golden Eagles on the board. Gagnon received
the pass from Detter and striped it past TCU's keeper Katy
Buchanon.
TCU responded less
than five minutes later with an unassisted goal from Pope. Her
second of the afternoon put the Horned Frogs up 4-1 going into
halftime.
In the first half
TCU out shot ORU 9-5 and a 4-3 advantage of shots on goal.
Less than 10
minutes into the second half TCU had its biggest lead of the day
when Karoly scored off a corner kick at the 54:11 mark.
The Golden Eagles
were rewarded a penalty kick at the 61:24 mark from a hard foul
taken in the box on Correne Walker (Greater
Portmore, Jamaica). Detter took full advantage of the opportunity
and found the back of the net to cut the lead to 5-2.
TCU made it 6-2
with the third goal of the match from Pope.
With the loss ORU
dropped to 1-2-1 on the year and Horned Frogs moved to 2-2-0.
For their strong
play in the tournament, Detter and Tamara Waller
(Sapulpa, Okla.) were named to the Grover Classic All-Tournament
Team.
ORU will travel to
Norman, Okla. on Friday to play Stephen F. Austin at 5 p.m.
