ORU Continues Road Trip Against Southern Utah


The Tip

The Golden Eagles returned to their winning ways on Saturday, defeating UMKC 66-45 in Kansas City ... ORU, without leading scorer Jenny Hardin and point guard Charity Czerwinski, still had enough offensive punch to put away the Kangaroos ...Meanwhile, Southern Utah picked up their first conference win also, besting Centenary 63-53 on Saturday ... This will be the 20th time these two conference foes meet ... Overall, ORU holds a 11-8 series advantage.


The Coaches

ORU head coach Jerry Finkbeiner is in his 11th season at the helm of the Golden Eagle program. Already the school�€™s all-time wins leader, Finkbeiner has amassed a 165-140 (.541) record at ORU while also holding a 363-174 (.676) overall mark in 18 total seasons as a head coach. On the other side is first-year head coach Steve Hodson ... Hodson, has led Southern Utah to a 4-11 overall record and a 1-0 Mid-Con record.

Southern Utah enters Monday night match-up with a 4-11 overall record and a 1-1 Mid-Con record ... On Saturday they defeated Centenary 63-53 ... Anne Westwood led the Thunderbirds with 19 points ... SUU led Centenary by just one at halftime but pulled away late down the stretch ... Westwood scored 12 of her 19 points in the second half and pulled down 14 rebounds ... Westwood leads the Thunderbirds in scoring and in rebounds, averaging 9.8 points per game while picking up 7.1 rebounds ... Heather Hillock provides a 3-point threat for SUU, going 20-of-39 (.513) from beyond the arc ... The Thunderbirds have played well in front of their home crowd this season, holding a record of 3-2 at The Centrum.


ORU vs Southern Utah

This is the 20th meeting between the two Mid-Con opponents ... The Golden Eagles hold a 11-8 advantage and have won the last three tilts and 8-of-10 in the series ... Last season ORU won both match ups, including a 92-71 victory at The Centrum on Jan. 4, 2006 ... The Golden Eagles had five players post double-digits in points ...
