Okla. �€" Despite a career-high 26 points by
Sarah Davidson (New South Wales, Australia) Oral
Roberts University fell to Mid-Continent Conference rival Oakland
in overtime, 64-68, on Monday night at the Mabee Center.
The
Golden Eagles (13-8, 3-4 Mid-Con) led by 10 after two made free
throws by Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) at
the 1:09 mark of the second period. After two free throws by
Oakland�€™s (10-10, 6-1 Mid-Con) Nicole Piggott
with 58 seconds left cut it to eight, Jessica Pike drained a
3-pointer to cut ORU�€™s lead into half.
Davidson got back to the line and made 3-of-4 free throws in
consecutive ORU possessions to increase the Golden Eagle lead back
to five. Oakland countered quickly when Jessica Pike drove the
length of the court and made a lay-up with 16 seconds remaining.
After a pair of missed free throws by Davidson,
Oakland�€™s Pike failed on an initial 3-point try
but got another look with a second remaining and drained it to send
the game into overtime.
In
overtime, Oakland scored first but ORU regained the lead by two
after a 3-pointer by Davidson. OU rallied to take a two-point lead
with under a minute to play, 66-64. ORU had two chances to take the
lead on 3-point tries by Davidson and Rachel
Watman (Sydney, Australia) but neither shot fell and OU
went on to win for the sixth straight time.
ORU
went into halftime with a 28-18 lead with Davidson scoring 11 of
her 26 by going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles
limited Oakland to a 25.8 percent shooting clip and forced 12
turnovers.
Elisha Turek (Council Bluffs, Iowa)
recorded her 48th career double-double with 13
points and a season-high 17 rebounds. Camargo chipped in with six
and Alycia Seay (Big Cabin, Okla.) grabbed seven
boards.
Jessica
Pike led Oakland in scoring with 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting.
Piggott also scored in double-digits recording 13 points.
The
Golden Eagles continue Mid-Con play this weekend, playing at
Western Illinois on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
