TULSA - Goals by
Gary Duran and
Michael Lind carried Oral
Roberts University to a 2-0 defeat of conference foe IPFW, Saturday
night at the ORU Soccer Complex. With the win, ORU improves to
4-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play, while IPFW falls to
3-9-2 overall and 0-2-0 in league action.
Juan Chang had an excellent opportunity to give the Golden Eagles
an early lead with a breakaway opportunity in the 17th minute, but
IPFW's goalkeeper Michael Knitter made a diving save to keep the
game scoreless.
The Golden Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead when
Gary Duran's blast off a
free kick from just outside the 18-yard box got past the leaping
effort by Knitter. The goal was Duran's second of the season and
second in as many games.
ORU out-shot the Mastadons in the first-half 15-4, including a 7-4
advantage on shots on-goal.
The Golden Eagles had a chance to add an insurance goal half-way
through the second-half.
Jorge Davila fed a perfect pass in between
two IPFW defenders to
Jacob Schmoker, but Schmoker's shot was
steered away by Knitter.
ORU finally added the insurance goal they were looking for at the
86:01 mark. Transfer sophomore
Michael Lind added his first tally
of the year after an original shot by Davila hit the cross bar and
came right back to Lind. Lind finished the scoring opportunity to
increase the ORU lead to 2-0. Davila and Schmoker were credited
with the assists.
In all, ORU out-shot IPFW 27-10, while holding a 14-5 shots on-goal
edge.
Andrew Techanchuk had five saves to earn his second shutout of the
season, while Knitter finished with 13 saves in a losing
effort.
ORU resumes conference play next Friday, Oct. 19, traveling to
Shreveport, La. to play Centenary. Game time is slated at 7
p.m.
