Golden Eagles Rebound with Sweep of Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Oral Roberts volleyball team jumped back into its winning ways on Sunday afternoon with a three-zero sweep of Centenary (1-23, 0-10 Summit League), winning by score of 30-19, 30-17, 30-22.

ORU's Janete Ferreira registered a match-high 17 kills, hitting .412 on the night. The junior-transfer also tacked on eight digs. Juniors JoJo Souza and Jackie Oliveira each chipped in 10 kills a piece in the win, while junior setter Thais Parada posted her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 31 assists and 10 digs for ORU.

The Golden Eagles limited Centenary to only nine kills and a .103 hitting percentage in game one, jumping out to a quick 12-4 lead before junior Nicole Weis served the ball into the net to stop the ORU scoring drive. Centenary would never get within striking distance of the Golden Eagles as ORU would win game one 30-19.

ORU would take a 4-0 lead in game two with the help of three-straight Centenary errors. But the Ladies would keep the game interesting, going on a three-point scoring run to come within one of ORU, 6-7. That would be as close as Centenary would get to the Golden Eagles as ORU would go on a six-point spurt to take a 13-6 lead. ORU would end game three with six-straight kills, three from Janete Ferreira, to win 30-17.

Game three would be close the first 10 points with ORU taking the 5-4 lead only to go on a five-point run to take a 10-4 advantage with a Nicole Weis service ace. Centenary would keep things interesting when Danielle Bochat laid down a kill to move the Ladies to within one, 21-20. But the Golden Eagles would allow them to score only two more points, before they would end the game on a six-point run to win 30-22.

The Golden Eagles will take the week to rest before they play host to Western Illinois and UMKC on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday Oct. 27 at the Cooper Aerobics Center next weekend. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.
