TULSA -
Juan Chang scored three goals and Miguel
Peralta tallied two more to lead Oral Roberts University to a
6-2 defeat of Newman University in non-conference action on Monday
night at the ORU Soccer Complex.
ORU (6-9-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind Chang's three goals and
Vince Tizzone's goal in the first 34 minutes.
Chang tallied his first goal in the 21st minute on a header in the
box from a cross by
Jacob Briscoe. The assist was Briscoe's
first point of the season.
Chang added another goal just over three minutes later after
receiving a pass from freshman Vince
Tizzone. Tizzone then added a goal of his own just 53 seconds
later to give ORU a decisive 3-0 lead. Chang and Andrew
Techanchuk were credited with the assists.
Chang completed his hat trick at the 33:54 mark after receiving a
pass from
Jorge Davila, sliced through the Newman (4-13-1)
defenders and buried the ball in the back of the net.
Newman was able to slice into ORU's lead with a goal at the 36:00
mark to make it a 4-1 match. Newman's Brian Alvaraz was able to
sneak the ball in the back post off a corner kick.
ORU went into halftime with a 4-1 lead, while out-shooting the
Jets 15-8 in the frame.
The Jets cut ORU's lead into half, 4-2, just a little under five
minutes into the second-half on a goal by Ty Wisener.
That was all the scoring Newman would get though, as Peralta
buried Newman's hope of rallying with two goals to give ORU a 6-2
advantage. Peralta scored his first goal when
Jon Gann
found the junior streaking up the middle in the 60th minute. He
then collected his second goal of the match at the 65:39 mark off a
header on a cross by Tizzone.
Chang finished with three goals and an assist, while Tizzone had a
goal and two helpers.
ORU out-shot Newman 29-16 in the match and held a slight 6-3 edge
in corner kicks.
Seven different Golden Eagles recorded points while Techanchuk had
five saves in a winning effort.
ORU returns to conference play on Saturday, traveling to
Indianapolis, Ind. to play IUPUI at 6 p.m. CST.
