ROCHESTER, Mich. Oakland's Kristi Tomczyk scored the
game-winning goal in double overtime to defeat Oral Roberts
University, 2-1, in conference play, Friday afternoon at the OU
Soccer Complex. With the loss, ORU falls to 6-5-1 overall and 1-1-1
in league play, while Oakland improves to 4-6-1 and 3-2-0 in
conference.
Tomczyk, who scored both goals for Oakland in the match, notched
her first tally in the 27th minute as OU grabbed an early 1-0 lead
over ORU. Jessica Boyle was credited with the assist.
ORU rallied to tie the game at 1-1 just before halftime. Senior Correne
Walker scored her first goal of the season on a one timer from
a pass by
Brittany Winslow at the 42:40 mark.
Tomczyk scored her game-winning goal at the 102:45 mark, chipping
the ball over goalkeeper
Stef Gurley.
Gurley finished with six saves in the losing effort. OU's
goalkeeper Kim Herbst came in relief of Elizabeth Watza, who played
the first two periods, and earned the win with two saves.
Oakland held a 17-10 advantage in shots, although ORU held a 4-2
in corner kicks.
ORU resumes conference play next Friday, Oct. 12, traveling to
Indianapolis, Ind. to play IUPUI at 7 p.m.
