Men's Soccer Lands Six on All-League Teams

ELMHURST, Ill. -– Six different Oral Roberts University men's soccer players were honored on The Summit League All-League Teams, the voting done by the league's head coaches and was announced on Thursday.

Brian Beckford, Juan Chang, and Miguel Peralta were all named on the all-league first-team. Beckford, a senior defender from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, has starred all year on the back-line for the Golden Eagles. Chang, a sophomore forward, leads the team with eight goals and is tops in the league in shots (50) and third in points per game (1.06). Rounding out the first-team is Peralta who had a team-high seven assists to go along with three goals. This was Peralta's first time to earn all-league honors and second year in a row Beckford and Chang were placed on the first-team.

The Golden Eagles placed two players on the all-league second-team. Junior Gary Duran, like Beckford, had a solid year on the backline and also contributed on the offensive end with two goals, including one game-winner. Although it was Andrew Techanchuk's first season as the team's net minder, the redshirt-freshman made his impression known by being honored on the second-team. Techanchuk tied for the league lead with 75 saves, was named Summit League Defender of the Week twice, and recorded the second most shutouts (3) in the league.

Techanchuk was also honored on the all-newcomer team along with true freshman Vince Tizzone. An Edmond, Okla. native, Tizzone tied for second on the team with three goals and finished third in points (8).

IUPUI's Vangel Nacovski was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Oakland's Ian Daniel and Martin Sandell earned Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors, respectively. Gary Parsons, the head coach of Oakland, garnered Coach of the Year honors.

Oakland had four representatives on the first-team with IUPUI, UMKC, and Centenary each having at least one player named to the team.

No. 3 seed ORU (7-10-0) opens The Summit League Championship on Friday at 4 p.m. against No. 2 seed IUPUI (7-10-1). No. 1 Oakland meets No. 4 UMKC in the other semifinal match to be played in Indianapolis, Ind. at Kuntz Stadium.

The tournament will be held Nov. 16 and 18 with the tournament champion receiving The Summit League's automatic berth to the NCAA Men's College Cup.
