ELMHURST, Ill. - Six different Oral Roberts University men's
soccer players were honored on The Summit League All-League Teams,
the voting done by the league's head coaches and was announced on
Thursday.
Brian Beckford, Juan
Chang, and
Miguel Peralta were all named on the all-league
first-team. Beckford, a senior defender from St. Elizabeth,
Jamaica, has starred all year on the back-line for the Golden
Eagles. Chang, a sophomore forward, leads the team with eight goals
and is tops in the league in shots (50) and third in points per
game (1.06). Rounding out the first-team is Peralta who had a
team-high seven assists to go along with three goals. This was
Peralta's first time to earn all-league honors and second year in a
row Beckford and Chang were placed on the first-team.
The Golden Eagles placed two players on the all-league
second-team. Junior
Gary Duran, like Beckford, had a solid year
on the backline and also contributed on the offensive end with two
goals, including one game-winner. Although it was Andrew
Techanchuk's first season as the team's net minder, the
redshirt-freshman made his impression known by being honored on the
second-team. Techanchuk tied for the league lead with 75 saves, was
named Summit League Defender of the Week twice, and recorded the
second most shutouts (3) in the league.
Techanchuk was also honored on the all-newcomer team along with
true freshman
Vince Tizzone. An Edmond, Okla. native, Tizzone
tied for second on the team with three goals and finished third in
points (8).
IUPUI's Vangel Nacovski was named Offensive Player of the Year,
while Oakland's Ian Daniel and Martin Sandell earned Defensive
Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors, respectively.
Gary Parsons, the head coach of Oakland, garnered Coach of the Year
honors.
Oakland had four representatives on the first-team with IUPUI,
UMKC, and Centenary each having at least one player named to the
team.
No. 3 seed ORU (7-10-0) opens The Summit League Championship on
Friday at 4 p.m. against No. 2 seed IUPUI (7-10-1). No. 1 Oakland
meets No. 4 UMKC in the other semifinal match to be played in
Indianapolis, Ind. at Kuntz Stadium.
The tournament will be held Nov. 16 and 18 with the tournament
champion receiving The Summit League's automatic berth to the NCAA
Men's College Cup.
