ROCHESTER, Mich. �€" Mariana Camargo
(Blumenau, Brazil) scored the game-winning basket with 25 seconds
left as Oral Roberts University rallied to beat Oakland, 60-57, on
Saturday afternoon in Rochester. With the win, ORU extended their
winning streak to five games.
The
Golden Eagles (19-9, 8-5) trailed at halftime, 44-33, after OU shot
65.4 percent from the floor. Meanwhile, ORU shot 48.1 percent in
the first half but could not stop Oakland�€™s hot
shooting.
After
Oakland (16-11, 11-2) increased their lead to 46-33 with 17:48 left
in the second half, the Golden Eagles responded with a 15-0 run to
take a 48-46 lead. Seven points by Turek and back-to-back
3-pointers by Katie Langford (Arthurton,
Australia) and Rachel Watman (Sydney, Australia)
spurred ORU on the run. The lead was ORU�€™s
first since 18:33 in the first half.
The two
teams traded baskets over the course of the next three minutes but
OU took a 52-50 lead with 10:14 remaining. The Golden Grizzlies
would hold at least a one point lead until Camargo put ORU on top
for good with her jumper in the final minute.
Oakland�€™s Nicole Piggott had a chance to win
the game but her jumper with three seconds remaining missed and
went out of bounds giving ORU the ball with a little more than a
second left in regulation.
Camargo
launched the in-bounds pass all the way down the court and
Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) ran the ball down and
layed it in with under a second on the clock for the final
bucket.
Elisha Turek (Council Bluffs, Iowa) led the Golden
Eagles in scoring with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting and 5-of-7
from the charity stripe. Voelker followed
Turek�€™s effort with 13 points of her own.
Watman was the third Golden Eagle in double-digits, scoring 10
points.
The
Golden Eagles held Oakland to 15 points in the second half,
limiting the Golden Grizzlies to just a 26.6 percent shooting clip.
Both teams had 20 turnovers in the game.
Oakland
lost for the first time in 13 games. Nicole Piggott led OU in
scoring with 15 points.
ORU
returns to action on Monday, playing their last regular season game
against IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind. Tip is set for 6:00 p.m.
