ORU Stays Perfect in Conference Play; Defeats Centenary 3-0

TULSA - The Oral Roberts volleyball team held Centenary to a -.019 hitting percentage overall to defeat the Ladies (1-13, 0-2 Summit League) 30-19, 30-10, 30-19 to stay perfect in Summit League play.

Junior Jackie Oliveira led the Golden Eagles (7-6, 2-0 Summit League) in the quick three-game win with 13 kills and 10 digs, her fifth-straight double-double of the season and ninth overall. Oliveira stretches her streak of double-digit kills in a match to 13.

Junior Danijela Novakovic was right behind her, finishing the night with 12 kills to give her a .556 hitting percentage, her best of the season, while freshman Jocelyn Swier was a force at the net, combining for a career-best five blocks.

Centenary's Rebekah Hill, Ashlee Freeman and Christina Nichols all chipped in with five kills, while Lindsay Bekelja tallied 18 assists for the Ladies.

ORU took the early lead in game one, scoring three-straight points before Centenary's Danielle Bochat laid down a kill to make the score 3-1. The Ladies followed with three-straight points of their own to take the 3-4 lead off of a Jackie Oliveira attack error. But Oliveira would not back down, attacking at Centenary until ORU would regain the lead, 5-4. Back and forth both teams would go until a JoJo Souza kill would give ORU the 10-9 lead. The Golden Eagles would only allow Centenary to score 10 more points the rest of the game as ORU took a commanding lead and won, 30-19.

Centenary could not seem to catch a break in game two as ORU put the clamp down early, taking a 13-3 lead with the help of back-to-back JoJo Souza and Danijela Novakovic kills. ORU would run away with game two, winning 30-10 with the help of junior Thais Parada. Centenary could not find a way to stop the setter as she had four kills in game two to aid in the win.

Thais Parada served two-straight service aces to start game three, to give ORU the early lead, which they would hold throughout the entire game. The Golden Eagles would only allow Centenary to get as close as two at the 4-2 mark, before the Ladies started to hurt themselves with errors. For the second-straight game, Parada registered four kills for ORU, finishing the night with eight, a season-best, and helping ORU to win game three, 30-19.

Up next for the Golden Eagles is a trip to Springfield, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley Conference foe Missouri State on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
