Golden Eagles Defeat Houston Baptist, 101-59, Saturday To Pick Up Fifth Straight Win This Season

TULSA, Okla. - Freshman guard Georgia Jones (Manchester, England) and junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) paced the Oral Roberts women's basketball team to a 101-59 victory over Houston Baptist Saturday in the Mabee Center.

ORU registered its fifth straight win this season to improve to 5-1 overall, while HBU fell to 2-4 overall. The Golden Eagles are now 1-0 against the Huskies in the all-time series.

Voelker tallied her third straight double-double, as she scored a career-high 27 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, while Jones registered her first career double-double with 16 assists and 12 points. Senior guard Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) scored 15 points and junior guard Kelly Kindell added 14 points, while both freshmen Jordan Pyle (Mustang, Okla.) and Cristal Turner (Maidstone, England) chipped in 11 points apiece.

ORU jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first two minutes of action, as Voelker scored four of those first eight points. Houston Baptist came back to within three points, trailing 9-12 with 14:24 left to play in the first half but ORU took a 16-4 run in the next six minutes to take complete control of the game. The Golden Eagles took a 40-32 lead heading into the break.

The Golden Eagles opened up the second half with a 10-2 run in the first four minutes and ORU never led by fewer then 18 points after a Camargo jumper made it 52-34 with 16:21 left in the game.

Jones' 16 assists was the most for an ORU player since Leah Cannon's 15 against Chicago State on Feb. 23, 2004.

Voelker finished the day 10-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-4 from three-point range and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Turner also added seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists for an all-round day, as she went 3-of-4 from behind the arc, while Kindell was 4-of-9 from three-point range.

ORU shot a season-high 56.9 percent (41-72) from the field, including 45.5 percent (10-22) from three-point range and 75.0 percent (9-12) from the free throw line.

HBU shot 35.5 percent (22-62) from the field, including 40.0 percent (4-10) from behind the three-point arc and 68.8 percent (11-16) from the charity stripe.

The Golden Eagles open up a season-long six-game road trip on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at Nebraska at 7:05 p.m.
