ORU Cruises to 5-2 Victory Over Newman

TULSA – The Oral Roberts University men's soccer team rolled past Newman in the home finale on Tuesday night by a score of 5-2 at the ORU Soccer Complex. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-8-2 on the season, while Newman dropped to 6-9-4 overall.

Senior Carlos Pinto (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) led off the scoring in his final home game at the 8:36 mark, converting on a penalty kick for his sixth goal of the season. The goal was Pinto's 14th of his career at ORU.

Just four minutes later, Juan Chang (Guatemala City, Guatemala) received a boot from Pinto and looped the ball over the charging goalkeeper's head to put ORU up 2-0 in the contest.

Pinto booted another ball downfield to Chang in the 20th minute, as Chang found the back of the net from the right wing for his sixth score of the season. The goal was Chang's 23rd of his career, which ranks fifth all-time at ORU, while his 49 points rank seventh in school history.

The Jets got on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute, as Marshall Johnston converted off an assist from William Peppard. Six minutes later, one of Newman's defenders headed the ball into their own net, resulting in a 4-1 ORU halftime lead.

Brian Alvarez cut the lead in half at the 69:02 mark, heading in a goal off the keeper. Renato Ramlochan and Marshall Johnston assisted the score.

Senior Jordan Tatum (Grapevine, Texas) added insurance for the Golden Eagles in the 70th minute, firing in a free kick for his fourth goal of the season and 11th of his career at ORU.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Jets by a 26-13 margin. Chang and Gary Duran (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) both led ORU with six shots each.

ORU wraps up the regular season in a crucial Summit League matchup at Western Illinois on Saturday.
