TULSA - With
the help of four starters in double-figures, fourth-seeded Oral
Roberts' defeated fifth-seeded IPFW 82-67 to move on to Monday's
semifinal matchup with Oakland.
ORU (17-13)
had four players in double-digit scoring, led by Mariana
Camargo with 20. Rachel
Watman and Janae
Voelker added 15 apiece and Jenny
Hardin finished with 14 points. Voelker pulled down 10 rebounds
for her seventh double-double of the season, while Watman was just
short of the double-double, dishing out eight assists to tie her
season high.
Johnna Lewis-Carlisle led
all scorers with 29 points, while Jordan Zuppe chipped in 22.
Natalie Roberts grabbed 11 boards in the loss.
ORU shot
66.7 percent (8-of-12) from behind the arc in the first half, aided
by back-to-back Kelly
Kindell, Hardin and Watman three-pointers and held IPFW to only
three scorers - Lewis-Carlisle (15), Zuppe (14) and Edwards
(4).
Both teams battled back and
forth with the Golden Eagles holding the lead the entire first
half. Leanne
Robison started a 10-0 run at the 9:52 mark to give ORU the
33-25 lead, which they extended to 36-25 with a Voelker trey.
The Golden Eagles took the
largest lead of the game at 16 with a Watman jumper at the :34
mark.ORU capped the first half with a Camargo
jumper at the halftime buzzer to head into the locker room with the
47-32 advantage.
The Mastadons fought back in
the second half, closing ORU's lead to 10 with back-to-back
free-throws by Jordan Zuppe. The Golden Eagles responded with an
8-2 run, but five-straight points from Lewis-Carlisle put IPFW to
within eight, 60-52.
ORU secured a 10-point lead
throughout much of the latter part of the second half, outscoring
the 'Dons 11-6 down the stretch to take the 82-67 win.
The Golden
Eagles face top-seeded Oakland in the semifinals at noon tomorrow,
March 10 at the UMAC.
