Golden Eagles Edged by UAB, 2-1

TULSA – Oral Roberts University men's soccer team fell in the season opener against UAB on Friday by a score of 2-1 at the Memphis Diadora Tournament. UAB improved to 1-0-0 on the season, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 0-1-0.

Two-Boys Gumede got the Blazers on the board first off an assist from Frank Brown at the 17:22 mark. UAB would take the 1-0 lead into locker room.

Three minutes into the second half, senior Carlos Pinto (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) knotted the contest with a goal from fellow senior Jordan Tatum (Grapevine, Texas).

The game would remain tied until the 67:34 mark, when Derek Rios scored from two yards out off an assist from Andrew Barsalona for the eventual game winner.

The Blazers edged ORU in shots by a margin of 12-11. Tatum and freshman Taylor Cluff (Plano, Texas) led the Golden Eagles with three shots.

Andrew Techanchuk (Tulsa, Okla.) played all 90 minutes in goal, posting two saves.

The Golden Eagles will return to action against Memphis at 7 p.m. on Sunday night.
