KANSAS CITY, Mo.
Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas) scored a
game-high 22 points and Oral Roberts University dominated Summit
League rival UMKC in every facet of the game en route to a 93-62
win, Saturday at Municipal Auditorium.
The Golden Eagles (15-13 overall, 13-3 Summit) won their fourth
straight game and, more importantly, pulled to within one full game
of first place North Dakota State, who played out of conference on
Saturday. ORU and NDSU meet in the season finale on Feb. 28 in
Tulsa.
Jarvis led the charge for ORU, hitting four three-pointers in the
first five minutes for a 14-9 lead at 15:23. The lead eventually
swelled to 24 points when Kevin
Ford (Portland, Ore.) completed an alley oop dunk on a pass
from
Beloved Rogers (Baltimore, Md.) for a 42-18 lead
with 3:44 left in the half. ORU led 48-28 at halftime.
It was more of the same in the second half. UMKC (7-22, 3-13)
scored the first four points of the half to pull within 48-32, but
ORU responded with a 13-0 run for a 61-32 lead with 13:41 to
play.
The lead eventually swelled to as many as 38 points when Rogers
completed a three-point play for a 91-53 lead with 3:46 to
play.
Jarvis finished the game 8-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-8
on three pointers, one off his career high. Ford was 7-of-9 from
the field, with five baskets coming on dunks, adding eight
rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Kyron Stokes (Mansfield, Texas) came off the
bench with 16 points, three rebounds and two steals. Dominique
Morrison (Kansas City, Mo.) scored 12 points in his homecoming
game, adding five rebounds and three assists.
Dane Brumagin led UMKC with 16 points.
ORU shot 54.2 percent from the field, including 10-of-19 (52.6
percent) from three-point range. The Golden Eagles limited UMKC to
34.9 percent shooting for the game, including 5-of-19 from beyond
the arc.
ORU out-rebounded UMKC, 42-32, and shot 73.1 percent (19-26) from
the free throw line, compared to 59.1 percent (13-22) for the
Kangaroos.
The Golden Eagles begin the final weekend of regular-season play
when they host South Dakota State, 7:05 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26 at
Mabee Center.
