The Golden Eagles Face Oakland; Postseason Looming

Box Score

TULSA, Okla.-The Golden Eagles find themselves in a struggle with Oakland tonight at 7 p.m. for a possible spot in the conference postseason tournament with just two weeks left in the regular season.

The Golden Eagles (6-8-1, 3-2 Summit) are currently in the fourth and final spot for the Summit League postseason berth, but they will have to defeat the Golden Grizzlies (4-10-1, 2-2-1 Summit League) if they want to remain there. The Golden Grizzlies, who sit in fifth place behind ORU, are led by freshman Kayla Kellermann with five goals. Senior Anna Berschbach and sophomore Payj O'Shea have split the keeping duties and have combined for 71 saves and 22 goals allowed. The Golden Grizzlies were at the top of the Summit League standings early in the season, but have fallen due to a three match winless streak in conference play.

ORU has been decimated by injuries; losing team captain Anna Van Valin and key contributors Allison Hall and Megan Giles for the season. The Golden Eagles have stayed in contention thanks to a six-match home winning streak and senior Maria Grados, who has played through her own injuries to lead the team with eight goals-including four game winners. Freshman Helen Erb has been carrying the load at keeper, allowing just six goals while leading the team in saves with 34.

The Golden Eagles will have struggled on the road, but have two home matches remaining before the conference tournament on November 4-6.
