Box Score TULSA, Okla. -
Oral Roberts University continued a run of fine play on Monday night, thrashing IPFW, 102-62, at the Mabee Center. The win is ORU's third in as many games.
With the victory, ORU is now just one game behind idle South Dakota State for first place in the Summit League, with a 7-2 League record.
ORU (13-7, 7-2 Summit League) flourished thanks to matching 25-point efforts from Kevi Luper and Jordan Pyle. Two nights after going over 2,000 career points, the junior added a season-best eight steals, while Pyle's 25 was a season high.
Freshman Bernadett Balla also had a big night. The Hungarian was 5-for-5 from the field and scored 18 points, a new career high. She also set career marks with nine rebounds, four steals and four blocks.
Playing without leading scorer Stephanie Rosado, IPFW (7-13, 4-5 Summit League) struggled to do much on the offensive end. The Mastodons shot 32.1% for the game and didn't hit a two-point field goal until the 19:15 mark of the second half.
Anne Boese led IPFW with 13 points. The Mastodons committed 33 turnovers.
Both teams came out sluggish, with points difficult to come by. A three-pointer by Boese, her team's fourth of the night, drew the Mastodons even with their hosts, at 12-12, with 13:24 left in the half.
But Pyle came alive, scoring seven points to spark a 9-0 ORU run. An and-one from the senior, at the 10:27 mark, put the Golden Eagles on top by a 21-12 count.
IPFW continued to fall victim to careless turnovers, and ORU capitalized. A 16-3 run, capped off with Balla free throws, saw ORU doubling up their opponents at the 3:34 mark, 37-18.
That momentum carried into the half. ORU scored the final five points of the period and took a 46-22 lead into the break.
The lead hit 30 on the strength of two Pyle free throws. ORU led, 59-29, with 15:59 left in the game, and the rout was on.
The only suspense of the second half centered on Pyle and her quest for a career high. Though she fell a point short, her 25-point effort came on 9-of-14 shooting.
Freshmen Delaney Scrivner sent ORU over the 100-point mark, with a three-pointer in the game's final seconds.
ORU shot 59.3% for the game, their highest mark of the season.
Savanna Buck also finished in double figures, with 11 points.
ORU begins the second half of the Summit League schedule on Saturday, when they host UMKC. Golden Eagle legend Krista Ragan will have her jersey retired during the contest, with tip-off set for 22:05 pm CT.
