HUNTSVILLE, Texas. - Jordan Parsons scored the golden goal in double-overtime to lift the Oral Roberts University women's soccer team to its third overtime victory of the season as the Golden Eagles defeated Sam Houston State, 2-1.

ORU improved to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in Southland Conference play, while the Bearkats fell to 6-8-1 overall and 4-4 in league play.

The Bearkats struck first in the 49th minute as Shannon Shields scored off the left post from six yards out, following a forward header by Ashley Alonzo.

However, for the second time in as many matches, a Golden Eagle was fouled in the box, setting up a Jennifer Abernathy penalty kick. The senior had no problem converting the attempt, scoring her eighth goal of the season to tie the game with 15 minutes remaining.

In the first overtime period, the Bearkats controlled the ball as they rattled off six shots. Fortunately, the roles reversed in the second OT, setting up the game-winner by Parsons, as the senior placed the header in the net for the goal.

Freshman Tahlor Lyman was credited with the assist on the golden goal.

Parsons finished the match with three shots on goal to lead the Golden Eagles, while Shields had two on target for the Bearkats.

Maddie Rhodes earned her seventh victory of the season as she sent back five Bearkat shots, including a key save in the first overtime period. Her counterpart, Kylie Hambleton, recorded seven saves in the loss.

The Golden Eagles will close the regular season with a three-match conference home stand, starting with Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. on Friday. On Sunday, ORU hosts Northwestern State at 1 p.m. and close the season with a date against McNeese State on Nov. 1.
