SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Oral Roberts University
baseball team won its first mid-week contest of the season on
Tuesday night as the Golden Eagles topped Missouri State on the
road, 4-1. The victory improved ORU to 19-26.
ORU's victory was its fifth in a row and its first at Hammons
Field since 2007.
Coming off a three-game sweep at Lamar where the offense was
the story, the pitching of Pepe
Gomez, Phillip
Wilson and Kurt
Giller stepped up against the Bears. Their performances were
complimented by Kevin
Cho who picked up four hits and Joey
Migliaccio added a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Wilson (1-1) went four innings in relief of Gomez and allowed
just one hit and struck out three. During his time on the mound,
Wilson set down 11 consecutive MSU batters.
In his first start as a Golden Eagle, Gomez allowed one run on
five hits in four innings, while Giller struck out two in the ninth
en route to his first save of the season.
Missouri State fell to 27-17 on the season as Tyler Thomason
earned his fourth loss of the season.
Cho's second single of the game came by way of the infield
variety as the MSU pitcher was unable to coral a hard hit ball,
scoring Chris
Williams on the play. Austen
Colt was the second run of the inning to cross the plate as the
MSU third baseman misplayed a grounder off the bat of Matt
Brandy.
In the top of the fifth, Logan
Domenico picked up a two-out single to drive in Cho, expanding
the Golden Eagles' lead to 3-0.
The Bears cut into the ORU lead in the home half of the inning,
as they scored their lone run of the game Dylan Becker singled to
right to drive in Keenen Maddox.
Nate
Goro and MSU's Luke Voit were the only other batters besides
Cho with multiple hits, each finishing with a pair of singles.
The Golden Eagles and Bears will match up again at Hammons Field
on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
