CEDAR CITY, Utah – Montserrat Brotons scored a career high 18 points as the ORU women's basketball team fell at Southern Utah, 72-58, Tuesday afternoon in Cedar City, Utah.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 7-4 lead until Southern Utah went on a 6-0 run to a take a 10-7 lead before the media timeout. ORU scored their last three field goals of the quarter and tied the game up 16-16 at the end of the first period. Montserrat Brotons and Macy Gore each had six points as the team shot 40 percent from the field.
Back and forth play in the second quarter led to both teams being tied five minutes in to the second. Turnovers by both teams allowed for 11 points off turnovers for each team. Southern Utah took their largest lead in the first half, 38-24, with 30 seconds to play. The Thunderbirds went on a 14-0 run in the second and took the lead in to the half.
The Golden Eagles came to within 11 points of the Thunderbirds in the third quarter after a 22 point deficit. Brotons scored her 10th point of the game, but the Southern Utah maintained a 61 percent shooting average to have a 55-40 advantage after the third.
ORU cut it to an 11 point deficit to close the gap, but SUU extended the lead to 19 with a 7-0 run. Brotons made it a 14 point game at the end of the period when she scored the last points for the Golden Eagles. Her final bucket gave her 18 points on the day, a career high.

Oral Roberts: Montserrat Brotons led the Golden Eagles with 18 points. Keni Jo Lippe and Rachel Skalnik each grabbed five rebounds.
Southern Utah: Rebecca Cardenas scored 17 points and Shalyn Fano grabbed seven rebounds.
