TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts baseball program has added
Jimmy Turk as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2021 season marking his return to Tulsa, spending time previously as a student-athlete at ORU.
Turk comes from South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Arizona where he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the past five years. In addition to coaching, Turk served as the Sports Information Director at South Mountain. The 2018 season was the most successful during Turk's time in Phoenix, winning the ACCAC Conference Championship with a record of 46-15 and ranking as high as No. 3 nationally. During his tenure, 50 student-athletes went on to the NCAA Division I level.
Turk has a history of success coaching collegiate summer baseball throughout the country. Previously, Turk has led the Macon Bacon (Coastal Plain League) and Western Nebraska Pioneers (Expedition League) and served as the hitting coach for the Waterloo Bucks (Northwoods League). As the manager, Turk has appeared in three summer ball championships, winning a title in both the Coastal Plain League and Expedition League. In addition, Turk was named the 2018 Expedition League Coach of the Year, leading the Pioneers to a 49-17 record. In summer ball, Turk has worked with two Collegeiate Summer All-Americans, 38 MLB Draft picks, and 34 summer league all-stars.
Before heading to South Mountain Community College, Turk coached for seven seasons with Slammers Baseball during the fall and summer. In addition, he coached two seasons at Ponderosa High School and three years at Cherry Creek High School, where he won a state championship in 2012. During his time with Slammers, Ponderosa, and Cherry Creek, Turk worked with 148 future collegiate student-athletes and 23 MLB Draft picks.
In addition to his coaching career, Turk served as an associate scout for the Tampa Bay Rays from 2015-2016.
A native of Owasso, Oklahoma, Turk has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and a minor in Marketing from Colorado State University at Pueblo and currently resides in Jenks, Oklahoma.
