TULSA, Okla.D'Mauria Jones posted a 16-point, 21-rebound double-double as the Oral Roberts men's basketball team dominated Bacone in a 96-65 victory Tuesday night inside the Mabee Center.
 
The Golden Eagles moved to a perfect 3-0 at home this season getting offensive production from all 11 players that saw the court with five tallying double-digit points. Jones pulled down 21 of the team's 62 total rebounds, tying for seventh in single-game history, and had career highs in points and rebounds.
 
ORU took control early scoring the game's first eight points as DeShang Weaver and RJ Glasper connected on back-to-back triples followed by a Kareem Thompson jumper. The margin pushed into double digits, 13-3, as Carlos Jürgens drained a 3-pointer of his own before assisting Thompson on a basket.
 
Jones grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on the put back giving ORU a 20-9 advantage with 12:45 to play in the frame. After the Warriors used an 8-2 run to close the gap to six points, 31-25, ORU scored the next 12 and held the visitors scoreless for nearly five minutes. The Golden Eagles continued their pressure and closed the half owning a 20-point cushion, 48-28, behind Weaver's 13 first-half points.
 
The momentum carried into the second half as ORU pushed the lead to 60-33 as Francis Lacis soared to the rim for a two-handed finish. Sheldon Stevens knocked down a pull-up jumper capping a 9-0 run as the margin swelled to 37 points in the final six minutes. The lead briefly dipped below 30 before the Golden Eagles closed out the home win, 96-65.
 
Turning Point
Bacone whittled the ORU lead down to six in the first half, but it was all Golden Eagles to intermission out-scoring the visitors by a 17-3 margin in a five-minute span for a 20-point advantage at halftime.
 
Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: Jones completed his first collegiate double-double posting career highs with 16 points and a remarkable 21 rebounds as the redshirt senior dominated the glass in 31 minutes on the court.

Bacone: Dean Austin hit 12-of-21 shot attempts, including 6-of-8 from distance, scoring a game-high 30 points to pace the Warriors.

- Jones closed the night with 12 of ORU's 23 offensive boards and became the first Golden Eagle with 20 or more rebounds in a game since Javan White pulled down 20 at Little Rock Dec. 2, 2017. The 21 total rebounds ties the Los Angeles, California, native for seventh in ORU single-game history joining Mark Acres, Antonio Martin, Eddie Woods and Rocky Walls and matches the most rebounds by a NCAA player this season.
 
- Weaver and Thompson finished with 13 points and six rebounds apiece, while Thompson joined Jürgens for the team lead with four assists.
 
- Glasper and Jürgens combined to connect for seven 3-pointers as each player totaled 12 points. Justin Lovvorn shot 3-of-5 from distance adding nine points as ORU made 12-of-40 from behind the arc.
 
- Lacis finished with nine rebounds to go with six points and two assists.
 
- Lorenz Ross, a four-year manager for ORU, made his collegiate debut in the second half and drew a charge on his first defensive possession. He later added a pair of free throws recording two points and had a steal.
 
News and Notes
- The 62 rebounds is the most by ORU this season and the ninth-most by a NCAA Division I team on the year.
 
- The Golden Eagles had four starters reach double figures and added 40 bench points.
 
- ORU finished the 2020 calendar year with a 10-1 record at home inside the Mabee Center.
