Location:
Tulsa, Okla. (J.L. Johnson Stadium)

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts baseball team took an early lead on Missouri State, but a three-run home run in the ninth broke a 3-3 tie as the Bears claimed a 6-3 win Tuesday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Jordan Wiley, the reigning Summit League Player of the Week, walked starting the second inning and later scored on a wild pitch. Isaac Coffey added a sacrifice fly that brought home Jake McMurray putting the Golden Eagles in front, 2-0. MSU answered back plating a run in the third on a solo homer to open the frame before taking a 3-2 lead scoring two unearned runs in the top of the fifth.

ORU wasted no time in coming up with the tying run in the bottom half of the fifth as Ryan Cash drew a one-out walk. The redshirt junior moved first to third on a failed pick-off attempt and raced home on Caleb Denny's sacrifice fly to even the score, 3-3.

Adam Scoggins entered from the bullpen in the sixth and stranded two runners on base before tossing a near-perfect seventh inning as neither team could break the tie for the next three frames. The Bears took advantage of two walks beginning the top of the ninth and hit a line drive home run on the first pitch following a call to the pen moving ahead, 6-3, and closed out the contest.

Turning Point

MSU battled for back-to-back walks starting the ninth and claimed a three-run advantage as Grant Wood lifted a home run to left center giving the visitors enough of a cushion to down the Golden Eagles.

Quote of the Day

"I didn't think we did a good job with our strike zone discipline. We chased some pitches we needed to take and took some pitches we needed to swing at. Then on the mound we gave up two big home runs and we made three defensive errors today, which is uncharacteristic of this club." – ORU Head Coach Ryan Folmar
