#ORUMBB Caps Second-Half Rally Taking Down Roos

Box Score | Post-Game Press Conference | Season Stats2020-21 Schedule

The Basics
Score:
Kansas City 58 – Oral Roberts 60
Record: KC (5-9, 1-4 SL) – ORU (9-6, 6-1 SL)
Location: Tulsa, Okla. (Mabee Center)

TULSA, Okla.RJ Glasper's floater with 3.4 seconds remaining vaulted the Oral Roberts men's basketball team to a 60-58 victory over Kansas City overcoming a double-digit deficit in the second half Saturday night at the Mabee Center.

The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as 14 points in the second stanza and buckled down defensively to come away with their fourth-straight Summit League win. ORU took advantage of two missed free throws by Kansas City with 15 seconds to play of a tie game leading to the game winner by Glasper.

The Roos came in and silenced the crowd momentarily building an 8-2 advantage before ORU stormed back and used an 8-0 run to jump in front, 10-8, holding the visitors scoreless for 3:54. Kansas City countered with the next six points and held a 16-13 lead until the Golden Eagles turned up the pressure defensively.

During a 4:22 stretch, ORU did not allow the Roos to score a single point and tallied five of its own to retake a two-point margin, 18-16, as the clock ticked under eight minutes in the half. The lead switched sides three times in the next five minutes before Francis Lacis gave the Golden Eagles a 25-22 advantage after he pulled down an offensive rebound with 3:51 to play and scored on the put back. Kansas City closed the half on a 9-2 run taking a 31-27 lead into the halftime break.

The Roos came out of intermission and pushed their lead to seven, 36-29, limiting ORU to two points in three minutes beginning the second half by dictating the pace of play. The Golden Eagles were forced to call a timeout following a 3-pointer from Kansas City making it a 43-31 contest and another basket for the visitors closed a 12-2 run spanning more than five minutes.

Facing an 11-point deficit with 12:26 to play, it was a huge block from DeShang Weaver at the rim that changed momentum of the game. The reenergized ORU squad and Mabee Center crowd spurred the home side during an 18-4 run covering nearly seven full minutes to even the score, 49-49, as Max Abmas connected on a triple. The lead went back-and-forth three times down the stretch until Abmas made a free throw with 36 seconds remaining to even the score, 58-58. After the Roos missed both shots at the free-throw line, Glasper sprinted up the court and his pull-up floater found the bottom of the net before Kansas City's 3-point try at the buzzer missed giving ORU the 60-58 win.

Turning Point
Already holding an 11-point lead in the second half, the Roos' Zion Williams attacked the rim looking for an exclamation point to the night. He was not ready for Weaver at the hoop and the redshirt sophomore denied the dunk attempt with two hands. That rejection ignited the crowd and the entire ORU team helping start a run that turned the tide of the game.

Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: Glasper was a constant threat to score and did so in a variety of ways as the Forrest City, Arkansas, native balanced a slick, step-back game with a strong push to the basket on his way to 17 points.

Kansas City: Brandon McKissic used his speed from the backcourt and was able to get to the rim scoring 20 points to lead the Roos on 9-of-15 shooting.
