NORMAN, Okla. – In a midweek contest against in-state rival Oklahoma, the Oral Roberts baseball team came up just short, falling by a score of 14-12.

An eight-run top of the first inning set the tone for the Tuesday night slugfest in Norman. Jake McMurray got the Golden Eagles rolling with a stand-up triple and Joshua Cox immediately followed with an opposite field home run. A hard hit ball from Jordan
Wiley caused an error by the Sooner defense to score a run, before Alec Jones walked with the bases loaded to make it 4-0. Anthony Martinez and Ryan Cash both added a two-run double to push the ORU lead to 8-0 before the inning ended.

The Sooners immediately responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the first inning.

Cox lead off the second inning with his second home run of the game – This time to right field. Wiley continued the scoring efforts in the inning when he drove in Adam Oviedo on a single through the left side.

Oklahoma tied the game with six unanswered runs before the Golden Eagles could respond. With four runs in the second and a pair in the fourth, the two teams were deadlocked at ten apiece.

ORU quickly reclaimed the lead on a leadoff home run from Martinez in the fifth. Two innings late, Jones launched his first home run in an ORU uniform to put the Golden Eagles up 12-10.

In the bottom of the seventh, Oklahoma put a three-run home run over the left field wall to retake the lead. The Sooners added an insurance run in the eighth inning, which would seal the victory.
