TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts men's basketball team rolled John Brown, 95-62, on homecoming Friday evening in front of a crowd of 5,000-plus at the Mabee Center.
Defense without fouling was a point of emphasis this week and the Golden Eagles did just that. ORU only committed two fouls in Friday's contest and did not allow John Brown a single free-throw. In front of an outstanding crowd of 5,097, the Golden Eagles shined with all five starters scoring in double-digits.
John Brown started the game off strong from beyond the arc scoring its first points from three-point range. Connor Vanover then gave ORU its first lead with a three-pointer of his own. JBU went on an 8-0 run to go up by three minutes later. Down the stretch, JBU led by as much as five with 7:42 left in the first half. ORU then used an 11-2 run to go up by four that was capped by with a
Max Abmas four point play. Oral Roberts led by as much as eight in the half, but took a 39-35 lead into halftime.
After shooting 39 percent in the first half, ORU shot an impressive 55 percent from the field in the second.
Issac McBride led the second half with 12 points going 5-for-6 from the field and 2-for-3 three from long range. A 7-0 run gave Oral Roberts its first double-digit lead of the night early in the second stanza. JBU cut the lead to nine before McBride hit a three to give the double-digit lead back to ORU and the Golden Eagles never let go. ORU went on a 20-3 run that was highlighted by a Jake Shannon three-point shot with 27 seconds left in the game to give the team a 95-62 win in the home opener.
Friday's win was the 600
th win for the men's basketball program inside the Mabee Center. ORU had all five starters score in double-digits for the first time since March 2021. As a team ORU shot 47 percent from the field and made 15 three-pointers extending its streak of 10 or more three-pointers made in a game to 11 of its last 13 games.
Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: McBride and Vanover each scored 19 points on the night while Abmas again led ORU in rebounding with a career high nine.
John Brown: Payton Guiot scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Benjamin Agwu Eme also pulled eight boards.

th all-time in the ORU history book.
- Extending from last season, ORU has now made 10-plus three-point buckets in 11 of its last 13 games.
