HOUSTON – The Oral Roberts men's basketball team fell to the No. 3 Houston Cougars, 83-45, Monday evening at the Fertitta Center in game one of the Cougar Classic in Houston, Texas.
 
DeShang Weaver led the Golden Eagles with 12 points on the night against top ranked Houston. Weaver went 4-for-9 from the field and added five rebounds to his stat line. The Golden Eagles scored the first points in the game to jump out to a quick lead over the No. 3 team in the nation. ORU came out of the first media timeout and hit a pair of free-throws to make it an 8-6 game just five minutes in. The top five Houston Cougars then went on a 14-0 that was extended to a 20-2 run. UH was then able to take 51-24 lead into halftime.
 
ORU came out in the second half, buckled down defensively, and was able to force stops to cut the deficit to 21. The Golden Eagles out-scored the Cougars 15-10 through the first nine minutes of the second half. Down the stretch, Houston continued to lead and behind their 52 percent shooting night, the Cougars finished with the 83-45 advantage.
 
The Golden Eagles won the turnover battle forcing the Cougars to cough up the ball 12 times in the contest. ORU capitalized scoring 13 points on those turnovers.   

Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: Weaver led the Golden Eagles with 12 points. Nate Clover III, Connor Vanover and Weaver each pulled five rebounds.

Houston: Tramon Mark had 23 points and Ja'Vier Francis grabbed 11 rebounds to go with his 11 points.

- ORU shot 21.1 percent from the three-point line going 8-for-38.
 
- ORU shot 22.6 percent from the field.

- ORU forced Houston to 12 turnovers and only committed 11.

- Abmas has scored 1,854 career points which puts him 10th all-time in the ORU history book.
