LOGAN, Utah. – Five Golden Eagles scored in double-digits as the Oral Roberts men's basketball team fell, 95-85, Tuesday evening at (RV) Utah State in Logan, Utah.
For the second time this season five Golden Eagles scored in double-figures.
Issac McBride led ORU with 19 points, tying his season high. Connor Vanover earned a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Max Abmas scored 17 while Carlos Jurgens and
Kareem Thompson each scored 11 points on the night.
ORU got off to a great start which started with a dunk by Vanover to get the game going. In the first eight minutes, the Aggies went up by five, but it wasn't long before ORU tied the game, 11-11. After a pull up jumper by Abmas and a three-ball by Vanover, ORU grabbed a 16-14 lead with 12:22 to go in the first half. Utah State then used a 21-5 run to lead by as much as 14 with five minutes left. The Golden Eagles wouldn't back down, after a pair of three-point buckets by McBride and Vanover, got back to within 11. Abmas made a side-step three-point bucket to pull ORU to eight. The Golden Eagles went into halftime trailing Utah State, 49-40.
The Golden Eagles got down by as much as 11 with 14:43 to go in the second half, but a quick 8-2 run brought ORU to within four with 12 minutes to play. Utah State then went back up by eight with a three-ball by Steven Ashworth, who scored a career high 30 points going 8-for-9 from beyond the arc. ORU would then go on an 8-0 run to tie the game with just under three minutes to play. Ashworth would then hit three-straight triples and a free-throw to put the Aggies on a 10-0 run with a minute to play. Down the stretch, ORU would pull to within five with 30 seconds to play, but free-throws for USU made it a 95-85 final.
Utah State shot 52 percent from the field on the night and 61 percent from three-point range as five Aggies scored in double-figures. For the fifth game this season, ORU had four or more players capture double-digits points.
Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: McBride led with 19 points and Vanover secured a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Utah State: Steven Ashworth scored 30 points and Max Shulga grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with his 10 points.
