TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts baseball team saw their six-game win streak come to an end Saturday afternoon as they fell to St. Thomas, 4-3, in Summit League action at J.L. Johnson Stadium.Â
It was Graduation and Senior Day in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as ORU honored their 13 graduates, along with their 14 seniors.
Ledgend Smith took the loss for the Golden Eagles despite another strong performance on the bump. The redshirt senior registered his sixth quality start of the season after allowing two runs, one earned, over six innings of work to go along with six strikeouts.
Caleb Denny put ORU on top, 1-0, in the first inning for the third straight game as the redshirt sophomore plated
Jake McMurray on an RBI ground out.
In the fourth, Sam Kulesa reached on an error to start the frame for the Tommies and later came around to score on a Kyle Halverson RBI single to even the game, 1-1.
St. Thomas took their first lead of the afternoon, 2-1, in the sixth on a Ben Vujovich sacrifice fly.
ORU threatened in the seventh, putting two on with no one out but failed to push across any runs as the score remained 2-1 in favor of the Tommies.
In the eighth, St. Thomas tacked on two more to their lead to make it 4-1.
The Golden Eagles scratched across two runs in the eighth to trim the deficit to one, 4-3.
Jackson Loftin scored
Mac McCroskey on an RBI fielder's choice and the Houston, Texas, native later came around to score on a throwing error by the Tommies.
ORU brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth but McMurray flew out to left-center to end the contest as the Tommies evened the series with a 4-3 win.
