Loftin Selected by Houston Astros in MLB Draft

TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts shortstop Jackson Loftin has been selected by the Houston Astros as the 403rd pick in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
 
With the selection, Loftin becomes the 140th MLB draft pick in program history.
 
In his lone season with the Golden Eagles, Loftin earned All-Summit League First Team honors and was also named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 First Team. The Houston, Texas, native also earned Athlete of the Month honors for April from the Summit League.
 
On the year, Loftin started all 58 games for ORU and registered a .349/.447/.572 slash line to go along with a team-best 25 steals. The shortstop also racked up 10 home runs, 14 doubles and 54 RBIs. In a series opening win at Northern Colorado on April 29, Loftin plated a career-high five runs and finished the afternoon 4-for-6 at the dish with two steals.

Loftin is the sixth Golden Eagle to be selected by the Astros and the first since Jim Torres in 2006.
