TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts baseball team begins a six-game road trip with a midweek contest at Wichita State on Tuesday at 3 p.m. from Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.

Inside the Series
• The Golden Eagles and Shockers will face off for the 74th time on Tuesday.
• Wichita State leads the all-time series, 41-32, and has won six of the last seven.
• A year ago, the two sides split the season series with the home team winning both matchups.

• RHP Brooks Fowler picked up the lone win of the weekend for the Golden Eagles as the sophomore tossed seven innings of one-run baseball to go along with six strikeouts in Sunday's 9-1 victory. The Jenks, Oklahoma, native's performance earned him his first TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week honor. With the award, ORU has claimed all three of the League's Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
• Drew Stahl put together a strong week at the dish for the Golden Eagles as the junior registered a .500/.579/1.000 slash line to go along with two homers and seven RBIs.
• RHP Joshua Caravalho will take the mound for ORU on Tuesday. In his last outing, Caravalho threw 5.2 shutout innings and allowed only one hit in a win over Tarleton. The sophomore will square off against LHP Caden Favors.
• Entering the week, the Golden Eagle offense leads the Summit League in runs (80), hits (126), doubles (24), triples (4), home runs (17), RBIs (74) and total bases (209). On the mound, ORU tops the conference in ERA (3.65), WHIP (1.14), saves (4), innings pitched (111.0), hits allowed per nine innings (6.9), strikeouts (125) and batting average against (.218). Defensively, the Golden Eagles top the League in putouts (333), assists (120) and double plays (12).
• Nationally, ORU ranks 11th in double plays, 11th in fielding percentage (.987), 13th in WHIP (1.14), 22nd in hits allowed per nine innings and 27th in hits (126).
• Matt Hogan continues to lead the Summit League in homers (5) and RBIs (15). The senior's five homers also rank 29th nationally. On the mound, Fowler tops the League in hits allowed per nine innings (4.8), wins (2) and WHIP (0.93).
• The Golden Eagles are coming off their 20th Summit League Tournament Championship and 29th NCAA Regional appearance after finishing with a 38-20 record in 2022. ORU returns 15 players from last year's NCAA Regional squad and welcomed 17 newcomers in the offseason.
• After an electric 2022 season out of the bullpen, junior right-hander Cade Denton received Preseason First Team All-American honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) and was tabbed the Preseason Summit League Pitcher of the Year by D1 Baseball and Perfect Game USA. The Rowlett, Texas, native was also named to the Preseason Watch List for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. Entering the week, the junior has allowed only one earned run over his last 44.1 innings.
• In the 2023 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll, ORU was selected as the unanimous favorite to claim the regular season crown. The Golden Eagles received 42 points and earned all six first-place votes they could. Redshirt senior Mac McCroskey and Denton were named the Preseason Player and Pitcher to Watch for ORU as voted on by the league's seven head coaches. Senior Jake McMurray and Denton garnered Preseason All-Summit League honors from Perfect Game USA.
• Entering the 2023 season, ORU ranks sixth all-time in NCAA history with a .652 winning percentage.Â
• Since 2001, ORU has made 17 NCAA Regional appearances, which rank as the most among Oklahoma schools.
• Head Coach Ryan Folmar enters his 11th season at the helm of the Golden Eagles and has compiled a 327-214 (.604) overall record. Â
Scouting the Opponent
• Wichita State enters the midweek with a 6-4 record after taking two of three against Oakland over the weekend.
• Payton Tolle powers the Shockers' offense with a .442 average to go along with two home runs and 12 RBIs.
• In the American Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Shockers were picked to finish fifth. Wichita State earned four Preseason All-Conference Team selections, headlined by the Preseason Player of the Year in junior Brock Rodden.
