TULSA, Okla. –  Oral Roberts University Athletics celebrates the extraordinary achievements of former Golden Eagle and Hall of Fame inductee, Garth Robinson, who was recently named the 2024 USATF Masters Sprints Athlete of the Year. Robinson's recognition comes on the heels of an unforgettable performance at the 2024 USATF Masters Indoor Championships, where he set a world record in the 200 meters and completed the 50-54 indoor sprint double in record-breaking fashion.

Competing in the 200m final on Sunday, March 24, Robinson delivered a world-record time of 22.68, breaking the previous mark of 22.99. The time also set a new Area record, showcasing Robinson's unparalleled dominance. His closest competitor, Eric Prince, finished more than two seconds behind in 24.75, followed by Kareem Hodrick in 24.77.

Robinson hinted at his record-breaking potential during the preliminary round, winning his heat in an impressive 23.16 on Saturday. Earlier in the weekend, he claimed gold in the 60m dash, clocking 7.10 in the preliminaries to break the Area record, before taking the final in 7.12 to cap off his two-gold-medal weekend.

Robinson's achievements at the Masters level add to an already legendary career. A two-time All-American during his time at ORU, Robinson is the only collegian to qualify for three events (400 meters, 800 meters, and 4x400 relay) at the 1995 NCAA Indoor Championships. In 1996, he recorded the 10th fastest time in the world in the 300 meters.

Internationally, Robinson shone on the biggest stage, earning a bronze medal for Jamaica in the 4x400 relay at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. His accomplishments were recognized with his induction into the ORU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.

"Watching Mr. Robinson continue to excel at this level is truly inspiring," said ORU Track & Field Head Coach Alick Musukuma. "His world-record performance and recognition as the USATF Masters Sprints Athlete of the Year reflect his unmatched dedication and athletic ability. Garth's legacy as a Golden Eagle and as a global ambassador for the sport is something we are all immensely proud of."

Robinson's accomplishments remind the ORU community and the world of the heights that can be achieved through dedication and perseverance. ORU Athletics extends its heartfelt congratulations to Garth Robinson for this incredible honor and looks forward to following his continued success.
