FARGO, N.D. – Oral Roberts standouts
Abraham Chelangam and
Jordan Wenger combined for three gold medals at the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, highlighting a weekend filled with top-five finishes and personal-best performances for the Golden Eagles.
Chelangam, a senior from Kapchorwa, Uganda, completed the three-peat in the men's 10,000 meters on Thursday evening, crossing the finish line in 31:14.58 and finishing four seconds ahead of the field. He followed that performance with another conference title in the men's 5,000 meters on Saturday, winning in 14:11.57 — 12 seconds clear of the runner-up. His time also broke the previous meet record of 14:21.01. Chelangam totaled 20 points across the weekend to lead the ORU men's squad.
Wenger also secured gold for the Golden Eagles, winning the men's high jump after clearing 6-11.50 (2.12m) to earn his second consecutive conference championship. Sophomore
Woedem Vasmark-Voegborlo joined Wenger on the podium, matching the winning height with a personal-best clearance of 6-11.50 (2.12m) to claim the silver medal.
Jessica Okorie added another podium finish for ORU on Saturday, earning bronze in the women's 400 meters with a time of 55.51 seconds. She contributed eight points to lead the ORU women's team during the championship meet.
Friday also featured several strong performances for the Golden Eagles.
Zoie Kiddy and Mackenzie Penner each recorded season-best times in the women's 800 meters, finishing in 2:18.84 and 2:24.53, respectively.
Deborah Mazzei led the ORU contingent in the event, placing second in 2:12.37 to qualify for the finals.
Anthony Smith added a season-best mark in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.22 meters.
On the final day of competition, Okorie and
Olivia Granderson each posted personal-best performances in the women's 400 meters. Granderson finished just behind Okorie in fourth place with a time of 55.57 seconds.
Hannah Claytor also recorded a personal best in the women's 5,000 meters, clocking an 18:27.21.
